Collaborating With Hospital Hill Run, Inc (HHR)
What HHR Is
This nonprofit event is the oldest half-marathon race in the Kansas City metro area and among the top five oldest nationwide. Hospital Hill Run’s mission is to improve the health and wellbeing in the community by promoting active lifestyles and physical fitness. HHR is the race of choice by thousands of runners, not only for it’s challenging course, but also for its contributions to charity and the local community.
In 2021, HHR partnered with Children’s Mercy Hospital as their primary donation recipient. Register and learn more at www.hospitalhillrun.com.
Diane Wilhelm is proud to be the president of the board for this organization as well as a race participant!
Be Part of Team World Vision (TWV)
TWV believes in children. The people who founded the organization also know that water changes the lives of children. Kids have better health, improved nutrition, and increased educational opportunities when they don't spend the day fetching water.
That is why they organize endurance events to raise funds to bring life-changing, clean water to communities that desperately need it. Currently, TWV reaches a new person with clean water on an estimate of every 10 seconds.
Our Top Book Reviews
“Simply an outstanding must-read. This is not just a great story about preparing for and running your first marathon. It’s also full of real-life examples of what life should be all about? Diane might have started out with the goal of running a race but she found a much bigger cause along the way with Team in Training and her connection with the LLS.
Her caring for others through her examples of commitment, passion, faith, love for her family, and the drive to not only succeed but make a difference in other people’s lives is very touching and inspiring.”

“More Than a Book on Running
Bold Moves is an inspirational and motivating read that both runners and non-runners will enjoy. Although Diane writes about training for and running her first marathon, she really tells a story about setting goals and overcoming obstacles through faith, family, and perseverance. Diane's personal tale of achieving her goals is a wonderful motivation for anybody facing a personal challenge.
Overall, I highly recommend Bold Moves as more than a "how-to" book on running marathons but, a personal inspiration for achieving goals and accepting challenges.”

“BOLD MOVES is an excellent book on so many levels: First, it's an inspirational story about going outside our comfort zones and trying the things that genuinely challenge or even scare us. Second, it's a fact-filled primer on how to prepare for and run a first marathon. Finally, it's an affirmation of life, faith, and doing things for others.
In BOLD MOVES Diane Wilhelm describes her decision to train for her first half-marathon and, later, the choice to run the entire marathon. She joins in with a group called Team in Training, an organization of runners and/or cancer survivors who help her train for this momentous task.
As she improves her running and pushes out the distance she's running, she offers outstanding advice about equipment and training techniques while also relating her efforts to the overarching goal of raising money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. You'll feel like you're training right alongside her, uphill and down, and when race day finally arrives you'll actually feel the excitement.
This book is an affirmation of faith and family, and as an added bonus it contains a short chapter at the end where Diane collects everything she learned about running gear, nutrition, and training techniques. It's an excellent checklist for anyone considering a similar running event, and the book itself is a wonderful tale of determination and selflessness.”

“Although this book focuses on the author's journey to complete her first marathon, I found the underlying message can be applied far beyond the sport of running. We all need to make "bold moves" to challenge ourselves to set personal goals we may not believe are possible.
What I liked most about the book was getting to the key message not through scientific studies or consultative rhetoric, but rather via the personal thoughts and experiences as communicated by the author.”

“Bold Moves is a fantastic book that infuses Diane's life experiences into a running story that inspires you to get out there and hit the pavement. Great read! "Nothing great is accomplished without activity and being willing to take risks.”
